Cabarete in the Dominican Republic is a Caribbean kite mecca — and for good reason. Consistent E-NE trade winds blow reliably across the warm Atlantic from June through September, creating classic cross-shore conditions day after day. Kite Beach is the hub: a long, flat stretch of water with perfect breeze and a buzzing international kite community.
But Cabarete delivers more than great wind. The lush mountainous interior offers incredible adventure activities — from canyoning through the famous 27 Charcos to jungle waterfall hikes. And the Caribbean nights, warm and lively with cold rum and fresh seafood, are as good as it gets.
Fly into Puerto Plata (POP). Transfer along the north coast to Cabarete. The wind is already there. Welcome dinner at a beachfront restaurant.
First session on Cabarete's famous Kite Beach. The E-NE trade winds are textbook — consistent, cross-shore, and perfectly powered. This is a kite town.
Rest day from kiting — adventure day at 27 Charcos, an incredible system of waterfalls and natural pools in the jungle mountains. Pure adrenaline.
Guided downwinder with ocean support. The warm Atlantic swell and trade winds make for an unforgettable run. Cold Presidente beers on arrival.
All-day kiting — Kite Beach is pumping. Evening canyoning or mountain hike for those with energy to spare.
Morning kite session, then an afternoon boat trip to Cayo Arena — a pristine sand island 45 minutes offshore. Farewell dinner and celebrations.
Transfer back to Puerto Plata airport. Cabarete has a way of making you book the return flight before you even leave.
Cabarete is a kite town — everyone is here for the same reason and the energy is infectious. Breakfast at the beachfront terrace, then a short walk to the beach as the E-NE trade winds build through the morning. Sessions are long and the water is warm. Lunch is a beach shack affair — fresh fish tacos and cold Presidente. Wind picks up again in the afternoon for a second session. Evenings are lively — Cabarete has a great bar and restaurant scene right on the beach.
